On Thursday, The Walmart group announced that PhonePe, a fintech company, has teamed up with PickMe, a ride-hailing platform, to allow Indian tourists visiting Sri Lanka to make payments using UPI.
PhonePe and LankaPay partnered last month to enable UPI payments for PhonePe users throughout Sri Lanka.
Our collaboration with PickMe is a testament to the company’s dedication to offering reliable and practical payment options to Indian tourists. In the past, handling payments in a foreign nation could be difficult.
Ritesh Pai, CEO of PhonePe International Payments, stated, “Now, Indian tourists visiting the beautiful island nation of Sri Lanka can enjoy the ease and security of UPI payments for their rides.
“We are the only ride-hailing platform in Sri Lanka to offer such a service to Indian travelers, and we hope to continue to innovate so that we make our ride-hailing service a convenient, safe, and cost-effective mode of transportation for everyone,” said Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha, who had urged companies in Sri Lanka to engage with Indian companies to build on the UPI stack for innovations in hotel bookings, cab bookings, delivery services, etc. The collaboration comes after PhonePe was launched in the island nation last month.
