According to officials, a drone carrying an explosive device was discovered at a German airport. According to Saxony police, a robot was deployed at Leipzig/Halle Airport after an employee saw it overnight near Ukrainian cargo jets.
Near the same airport, a second unidentified object also struck a cargo plane. After the airplane landed in Hanover, minor damage was found. Due to several unauthorized drone flights over important locations in recent months, including military bases, airports, energy terminals, seaports, and logistics firms, German airports are on high alert. Police have issued a warning that Russian spies may have orchestrated the overflights.
In addition to being a base for Antonov Airlines of Ukraine, which transports the majority of the nation’s aerial cargo, Leipzig/Halle Airport in eastern Germany is used by the German military and its NATO allies to transport military supplies.
Additionally, it serves as a significant center for DHL, a logistics company. The explosive-laden device was seen near parked Antonov aircraft, a police spokesperson told the BBC. The explosive device’s detonator was taken out. A controlled explosion was later carried out by police.
