As the globe experiences unparalleled technological progress, worries about public anxiety and a lack of faith in the government are becoming more prominent. A well-known individual has underlined how urgently governments must intervene and inform the public about the potential offered by cutting-edge technology like artificial intelligence and quantum computing.

Prof. Klaus Schwab, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, World Economic Forum, discussed the world’s profound transformations over the last 200 years, from the agricultural to the industrial to the intelligent eras, in a speech at the World Government Summit.

He pointed out that many people are feeling overwhelmed and anxious about the future due to the exponential speed of change. He urged cooperation between governments, corporations, and civil society to promote awareness and hope about these developments, saying, “The future is not happening; we shape it. Schwab cited the UAE’s visionary appointment of Omar Sultan Al Olama as Minister for Artificial Intelligence in 2017 as a prime illustration of how countries may prepare for this new era. He emphasised that education will be the key to adjusting to the impending changes. Within the next five to ten years, technological developments might have a direct or indirect impact on 50% of professions, according to data by his organisation.

Furthermore, he cautioned that if the advantages of new technologies are not explained, public mistrust and anxiety may worsen. “Governments have the task to explain to the people, to be educators, to show them that those technologies entail more opportunities than threats,” he stated.
