France is the First nation in Europe to Formally Prohibit Minors from using Social Media

As worries about the detrimental effects of digital information on children grow globally, French lawmakers have passed a bill prohibiting children under 15 from using social media, making France the first nation in the European Union to establish a complete ban on platforms.

The proposal, a major project of French President Emmanuel Macron’s second term, was approved by both chambers of the Parliament on Tuesday. Additionally, the bill prohibits cell phone use in high schools.

One of the last significant laws passed during his administration before he steps down the following year is this legislation. Macron wants the measure to take effect in September, when the new school year begins. But the bill’s implementation may be delayed by a review to see if it complies with the French Constitution. “Do we decide to impose a blunt, blanket ban on all social media for minors, or do we instead decide, as the European Commission is actually advocating, to ban only the harmful features of social media? Arthur Delaporte, a socialist MP, stated, “We are more in line with the latter position.
