According to the US military, in reaction to attacks on shipping and American service members, its troops attacked Iranian Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) sites in Iran on Tuesday. Explosions were heard in the regions of Bandar Abbas, Sirik, and Qeshm, according to Iran’s Fars news agency. According to the publication, local officials also recorded strikes in the districts of Chabahar and Konarak.
After the US launched more strikes on what it claimed were IRGC minelaying personnel in the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday—its first military action in the waterway in a month hostilities erupted once more.
The IRGC promptly declared that Larak Island had been damaged by attacks and threatened a “retaliatory response.” On Monday, it declared that its soldiers had attacked two US bases in Jordan and one in the United Arab Emirates. Later, the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Defence refuted claims that its Al Menhad air base had been targeted.
In essence, Iran created the threat and the U.S. military eliminated it to protect civilian mariners, commercial shipping, and the free flow of global commerce,” CENTCOM said, rejecting Iran’s claims that its Sunday strikes were a “act of aggression” and stating that its forces were responding to a “imminent threat in the Strait of Hormuz,” a strategic waterway that typically carries around a quarter of the world’s seaborne oil trade.
