The quick story that Alex Pretti was a domestic terrorist bent on killing federal agents has fallen apart under the weight of more and more video footage and statements from high-ranking Trump administration officials.
It looks like high-ranking officials in the administration are putting immigration agents in Minneapolis under the bus, blaming them for the administration’s initial half-hearted defence of what happened.
The assassination of Pretti has also brought back attention to a Department of Homeland Security PR machine that quickly tried to clear agents of wrongdoing in cases where force was used, even if footage from bystanders and independent judges has raised issues.
Just over a week ago, federal immigration officials shot and murdered Pretti, a 37-year-old ICU nurse from Minneapolis, after a tense interaction that was caught on film. The footage shows Pretti trying to protect a woman who an immigration agent pushed to the ground. In the end, he tried to fight off arrest before authorities opened fire. The event happened 11 days after Pretti had a fight with immigration authorities and was caught on camera kicking the taillight of a federal car before being tackled and let go by agents.
