US President Donald Trump has announced that he will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping in China on May 14–15. The historic visit was postponed due to the US-Israel war with Iran. Later this year, Trump is scheduled to host Xi in Washington, DC, and officials are “finalizing preparations for these Historic Visits,” he posted on Truth Social on Wednesday.

The dates of Trump’s visit were confirmed by White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, who informed reporters that President Xi has acknowledged and agreed to the request to reschedule the trip. At a press conference on Wednesday, Leavitt stated that President Xi was aware of how crucial it is for the president to be there during these military operations.

Beijing does not usually disclose Xi’s schedule so far in advance, but it has not responded to Trump’s list of dates. Earlier this month, China’s foreign ministry announced that it was in negotiations with Washington on when Trump will come. The trip, which was originally scheduled for March 31, was postponed after the US and Israel killed Iran’s top leader last month with extensive strikes.

A worldwide fuel crisis resulted from Iran’s attack on Israel and US-allied nations in the Gulf and its effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital passageway for the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas.
