It has transpired twice in the past week. A telephone conversation between the presidents of Iran and Russia. Russian President Vladimir Putin is presenting himself as an international peacemaker as the United States and Israel persist in their attacks on Iran.
Ultimately, it was the Kremlin commander who authorized Russia’s comprehensive invasion of a sovereign nation that was independent in 2022. At that time, the UN General Assembly had denounced the invasion of Ukraine as a violation of the UN Charter.
Russia is persisting in its war of attrition against Ukraine, despite its recent appeal for “a swift de-escalation and political resolution [of the Iran conflict].” Iran and Moscow have a “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership” agreement. Putin reiterated the Kremlin’s “unwavering support” for Tehran only this week. However, their strategic partnership is far from a mutual defense treaty.
Putin “expressed several thoughts aimed at a swift diplomatic resolution of the Iran conflict” during his telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump on Monday, according to the Kremlin. These thoughts were informed by his interactions with the president of Iran, the leaders of the Gulf states, and leaders of other countries.
